Inline Torque Transducers

Our most popular type of torque transducers, Inline Torque Transducers allow for the testing and measurement of all types of hand torque tools within the transducers capacity. They are static torque transducers used in a variety of industries.

Typical Use

Inline torque transducers are static torque transducers. One square drive of the inline transducer is fitted in a fixture, whilst the equipment under test is connected to the other square drive via its rotational element such as the drive on a torque tool.

Typical uses for inline torque transducers include the calibration, verification and testing of manual torque tools such as is seen with the Universal Torque Wrench Calibration Machine (shown on the photo) and Universal Torque Screwdriver Calibration Machine. They can also be used to verify the torque output of rotary torque tools using additional simulation fixtures.

Wide Range

The range of AWS Inline Torque Transducers allow for use in various applications, whether your torque requirement be as low as 0.01Nm, or as high as 3,000Nm. Custom capacities up to 100,000Nm are available upon request.

Strain Gauged Torque Transducers

AWS Torque Transducers convert mechanical strain into a differential voltage signal. These voltage signals are then interpreted by a display to show your torque reading. It's a well tried and much proven technology, meaning it's less prone to failure than other methods, and has high accuracy with long term stability. It also features infinite resolution, and is very temperature stable.

Compatible With Various Displays

AWS Inline Torque Transducers can be supplied with different output connections, allowing you to use them with the AWS Professional Transducer Display, other manufacturer's analogue displays or other manufacturer's displays which work with smart chip transducers. More details on this are listed below.

Recalibration at any calibration laboratory

Being an independent company, our equipment can be easily calibrated by any accredited calibration laboratory wherever they are in the world, allowing you to save time and cost by using local calibration services with short lead times.

What Features Do I Require?

The AWS Inline Torque Transducers can be supplied to work with a variety of displays to suit your requirements. Each series outlined below is designed to have different features, and to be compatible with one type of torque display.

  • I Series

For use with AWS equipment such as the Professional Transducer Display
  • Includes an intelligent instrumentation PCB within the transducer housing
  • Outputs using CAN bus protocol
  • Eliminates the loss of signal
  • Allows for longer cables to connect the transducer and display
  • Three modes of operation (see below for more detail)
  • Inline range covers from 0.01 - 3,000Nm
  • A Series

For use with other manufacturer's analogue displays
  • Capable to work with other manufacturer's analogue displays
  • A cheaper alternative to the I and N Series
  • Outputs a mV signal proportional to the supply voltage and torque
  • Also capable to work with older AWS instrumentation
  • Inline range covers from 0.01 - 3,000Nm
  • N Series

For use with other manufacturer's displays for smart chip transducers
  • Includes a smart chip within the transducer housing
  • Outputs a mV signal proportional to the supply voltage and torque
  • The chip stores the serial number, part number, capacity and calibration value.
  • Inline range covers from 0.01 - 3,000Nm

Modes of Operation - I Series

When used with the AWS Professional Transducer Display, the I Series range of torque transducers can be used in three modes of operation.

First Peak Mode

Used for click type torque tools, 1st Peak Mode detects, shows and retains the first peak reading in a fast dynamic memory, or is cleared automatically after three seconds if the auto cancel option is selected.

Peak Mode

Used for dial and cam type torque tools, Peak Mode shows, updates and retains the maximum reading in a fast dynamic memory. The maximum reading is retained until manually cleared.

Run Mode

Run Mode shows the torque value as they change as a live reading output.

Vertical / Horizontal mounting available

Sold Separately

Using the Inline Transducer Mounting Bracket, purchased separately, there is an option to bench mount the transducer to either a vertical or horizontal position. When mounted in a vertical position, it allows the transducer to be mounted in an ISO torque wrench calibration machine.
